Fourteen members met at the Galleria Saturday morning.  There was a draft of 70349 Ruina’s Lock and Roller .. review of MOCs .. discussion of Comicpalooza plans .. and shopping at the LEGO store!  Much enjoyment was had by all.

On St. Patrick’s Day members of TexLUG-Houston brought an assortment of models to a local children’s hospital for a one-day display.  Patients, families, and staff were all thrilled to see a space layout with monorail .. a samurai scene .. a train and town .. an Indiana Jones Death Star .. and more!

This has turned into a favorite event for many of us.  Kids in a hospital usually aren’t having much fun – it’s incredibly fulfilling for us to be able to bring a little unexpected joy into their lives.  We look forward to visiting the hospital again this summer.

TexLUG participation included (8) AFOLs.  Public visitors were estimate at approximately 1,500-2,000.

 

 

A week later we had our March meeting.  About 15 members showed up to sort and share parts.  Two “spring” theme MOCs were brought .. the Star Wars beach scene was a one-vote winner!

On February 25 and 26, 2017, members of TexLUG-Houston worked together to provide a large display at the Children’s Museum of Houston.  The LEGO(R) models included a classic space layout, a town and train area (incorporating an elevated train track), the USS Constitution, BB-8 from Star Wars Episode VII, and much more.

Thousands of kids and family visited the museum each day.  Young and old were all fascinated by the overall size of the display, by the intricate details, and by the surprises throughout.  Who would have expected to see Disco Batman sitting on the lawn with a moose?

We don’t have a good answer to the question, “How many parts is all this?” .. but we do know that the amount of smiles this weekend was even greater.

 

 

Recently members of TexLUG-Houston gathered to build new displays to be installed in local LEGO(R) Brand Retail Stores.  The first one is .. a model of a LEGO Brand Retail Store! It has been set up in a display window at the store in The Woodlands Mall, north of Houston.

TexLUG-Houston would like to thank the managers and employees of all three Houston-area LEGO Brand Retail Stores for their support and encouragement of the local AFOL community!  LEGO Brand Retail Stores may be found around Houston at The Woodlands Mall, the Galleria, and Baybrook Mall.

2017 has begun .. what will it bring?  For TexLUG-Houston, there will be displays (museums, hospitals, faires, and more!), meetings (drafts, build contests, oh my!), and the occasional brick convention.  Plus the usual group shopping trips, part swapping, collaborative builds, and whatever else we come up with.

TexLUG-Houston has created a brick-built wreath for the 2016 MD Anderson Cancer Center Wreath Auction.  Wreaths are donated by employees of the Cancer Center, and all proceeds benefit MD Anderson’s Adopt-A-Patient/Family Program.

TexLUG-Houston provided a variety of LEGO(R) displays at the Houston Mini Maker Faire, November 12-13.  Models included an 8′ working crane, a detailed USS Constitution with hand-tied rigging, and a large classic space layout.  In addition, Texas Brick Railroad helped out with a train and town layout.

Kids and adults were able to build with Minecraft-themed play brick, and a fund-raising activity allowed participants to help a local children’s hospital and take home a holiday ornament.

A total of 17 members of TexLUG-Houston and Texas Brick Railroad attended over the weekend.  Several thousand public visitors enjoyed not only the LEGO area, but the entire Faire.  The Mini Maker Faire is an annual event which lets makers of all kinds show off their skills and products.
